Special Congress Excursions

The National Host Committee welcomes you to explore the very best of the Hawaiian islands by foot, by boat or bike, and to discover the beauty and power of Hawaii through the Special Congress Excursions. These one of a kind adventures are led by knowledgeable local guides and have been organized into smaller groups for more hands-on experiences with the islands’ natural and cultural landscapes. Whether you’re trekking through Volcanoes National Park or tasting your way around the kalo festival on Oahu’s North Shore, we hope you see as we do that there is simply no other place on Earth like Hawaii.

The National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG), the Kaua`i Conservation Alliance (KCA) and County of Kaua`i are partnering to present the Kaua`i Conservation Expo and Expeditions.

  • Location: Island of Kaua`i, Various Locations
  • Dates: September 7-9, 2016
  • Cost: Varies depending on excursion
  • Pick up location:  Kiahuna Resort, (Po’ipū)

Although remote, Kaua`i is a biodiversity and conservation hotspot.  Because of the threat of extinction of many species of its flora and fauna, considerable resources and professional talent have been focused here. To highlight the incredible diversity and scope of conservation work on Kaua`i, a landmark event will take place over the course of three (3) days, and highlighting, science and research partnering organizations are conducting ng on the Island of Kaua`i. More than thirty (30) organizations are partnering to create this post-conference event. In a one day Expo and ten (10) different field excursions, the Kaua`i Conservation Expo and Expeditions will foster connections between local practitioners, global leaders, and educators, to create conversation opportunities about current and past conservation efforts and practices.

A variety of excursions and workshops are being offered during this three day event; each event must be signed up for individually. Attendees may choose not to participate in all three days of activity; however participation in Day One’s celebration and Expo is strongly encouraged to provide the broadest perspective on the range of biocultural conservation activities taking place on Kaua‘i.
